4 Pakistanis killed by Iranian border guards in remote southwestern region, Pakistani officials say
In a rural area in the southwest, Iranian border guards opened fire on a vehicle transporting a group of Pakistanis, killing four and wounded two, Pakistani officials reported on Thursday.
According to local authorities, the event took place on Wednesday close to the border village of Mashkel in the province of Baluchistan. Sahibzada Asfand, a government administrator, stated that it was unknown why the Iranian military started shooting.
The four men's bodies, according to the local police, have been given to their relatives.
Tehran and Pakistan's Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Both sides' security forces frequently apprehend rebels and smugglers who operate in the area. Pakistan engaging in reciprocal strikes attacked purported terrorist hideouts within Iran in January, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals as payback for an identical attack by Iran.
