As long as you require assistance, we will be there for you: PM Hasina gives Patuakhali cyclone victims assurance
Distributing relief supplies to those impacted by the storm, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed on Thursday that her administration and the Awami League party will support them for as long as they require help to reconstruct their lives.
She addressed the gathering, "We are beside you, will remain there, and will provide all kinds of assistance that is needed."
The district administration had arranged for the prime minister to speak at a relief distribution programme at Government Mojahar Uddin Biswas Degree College in Kolapara.
She stated that the Awami League's rule under popular mandate has been essential to the overall development of this southern region.
From a helicopter, PM Hasina observes the devastation caused by a cyclone at Patuakhali.
"A lot of people rose to power before us, but they didn't engage in any regional development initiatives," she remarked.
She reiterated that raising the standard of living for the populace has been the government's primary goal.
Natural disasters will occur, but we must deal with them if we are to continue raising people's standards of living, the speaker stated. "We are working on this."
She reported that compared to past cyclones, the tidal waves this time were significantly higher. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who had visited the government-constructed cyclone shelters.
According to Hasina, the Awami League government is taking all necessary steps to guarantee that the people's basic necessities are met.
She noted that because the nation has been blessed with continuous democracy, the government is supporting the people during these natural disasters."The nation is experiencing socioeconomic development due to the continuous presence of democracy," the speaker stated.
The prime minister stated that work is underway to fix the damaged roads and that work has begun on rebuilding the damaged dams. Additionally, precautions have been taken by repairing the dams prior to the monsoon to shield settlements from flash floods.
She promised the residents that in addition to rebuilding the homes that were destroyed by the hurricane, the government would also take other required actions, such as supplying seeds and fertiliser so that the farmers could replant the damaged wheat and rice harvests.

Awami League Joint Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Awami League Organising Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, and State Minister for Disaster and Relief Alhaj Principal Muhibur Rahman also spoke at the relief distribution programme, which was chaired by Kalapara Awami League Vice President Nirmal Nandi.
The district administration arranged for Government Mojahar Uddin Biswas Degree College in Kolapara to host the relief distribution programme.
She got a bird's eye view of the destruction wreaked by this week's storm when she flew over Mathbaria and Pathorghata villages in the Patuakhali district in a helicopter.
At 12:20 p.m. today, the PM's helicopter touched down at the helipad next to Khepupara Govt Model Secondary School in Kalapara, Patukhali district, following a roughly 1.5-hour journey from Bangladesh.
When the cyclone that was roaring from the Bay of Bengal slammed the coast of Bangladesh on Sunday, Mathbaria and Pathorghata in Kalapara were among the hardest-affected places.
At certain moments, the prime minister's helicopter hovered just above the surface to provide her a better glimpse of the devastation wreaked by the cyclone that resulted in tidal surges and heavy rains that destroyed homes, fish farms, and trees along the coast.
In addition, a massive evacuation of people to cyclone shelters resulted in at least 16 fatalities and numerous injuries, all under constant observation of the prime minister from Dhaka.
She went to the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Bridge on the Patuakhali-Kuakata road after the delivery of aid.
